Le immagini del clima che cambia anche in Italia

Oramai non c’è alcun dubbio che l’aumento delle emissioni di gas serra dovute alle attività dell’uomo è la causa principale dell’effetto serra e delle sue conseguenze sul nostro pianeta (dall’aumento delle temperature medie globali allo scioglimento dei ghiacci artici, dall’aumentata frequenza di eventi meteorologici estremi alla carenza d’acqua in agricoltura). Fino a quando non ci si ferma a riflettere e, soprattutto, ad osservare, il problema appare lontano e difficile da rappresentare. Gli strumenti della scienza – articoli, grafici, formule, proiezioni – seppur precisi nelle loro indicazioni, non sono sempre facilmente valutabili e la coscienza della gravità della situazione sembra essere ancora minoritaria.

 

Eppure il problema non è più del futuro, è del presente. Non è più degli altri (lontani geograficamente o nel tempo), è anche nostro. E’ anche dell’Italia, nel 2017, ed è urgente. Ma questi messaggi sono spesso incompresi, forse per il linguaggio utilizzato nel lanciarli, forse per il mancato sensazionalismo di un problema che cresce gradualmente da decenni. Lo sforzo dell’ICCG è da sempre quello di contribuire alla divulgazione del tema dei cambiamenti climatici attraverso diversi linguaggi, che possano raggiungere molte persone, anche senza preparazione scientifica. E così abbiamo proposto negli anni spiegazioni ed evidenze dei cambiamenti climatici attraverso eventi, opere d’arte, romanzi, teatro, web, video, premiazioni di idee e istituzioni per scuole, studenti, cittadini, accademici, politici.

 

Il libro di Carlo Carraro e Alessandra Mazzai, “Gli Impatti dei Cambiamenti Climatici in Italia: Fotografie del Presente per capire il Futuro”, Ca’ Foscari University Press, fa un passo oltre. Non siamo più noi, il mondo della ricerca, a cercare di rappresentare il problema in un modo che sia comprensibile e apprezzabile dalle persone comuni o dal mondo della politica. La prospettiva è rovesciata. Gli occhi stavolta sono quelli dei cittadini, delle persone, di chi vive e osserva nel quotidiano le trasformazioni indotte sul nostro ambiente e le nostre società dal clima che cambia: dalla riduzione dei ghiacciai montani alle alluvioni, dagli eventi estremi siccitosi alle ondate di calore. Immagini concrete, reali, presenti, scattate sul territorio italiano per documentare gli impatti dei cambiamenti climatici in Italia.

 

Ognuno ha potuto diventare fotoreporter e testimone di un cambiamento. Ognuno dei partecipanti ha potuto contribuire a far comprendere agli altri il problema. Questo dossier è la prova che i cambiamenti climatici sono tutt’altro che astratti, tutt’altro che lontani da ciascuno di noi. Attraverso i loro impatti, i cambiamenti climatici possono essere riconosciuti, osservati, rappresentati e documentati. Possono essere studiate le loro conseguenze economiche e sociali, oltre che ambientali, per poi poter progettare nuovi modi per affrontarli ed adattarvisi.

 

Desidero pertanto ringraziare i numerosi fotografi che hanno partecipato a questa prima edizione del concorso fotografico sugli impatti dei cambiamenti climatici in Italia, sicuro che nelle prossime edizioni questa pubblicazione sarà ancora più ricca, non solo per il purtroppo inevitabile aumento degli impatti dei cambiamenti climatici, ma anche per il crescere della volontà di ciascuno di mettersi in gioco documentando, anziché girarsi dall’altra parte, una delle sfide più grandi che riguardano e riguarderanno il nostro Paese e il nostro mondo.
