Il mese di luglio 2019 è stato il più caldo della storia e il 2019 si avvia ad essere il più caldo della storia, a completare una sequenza in cui 16 dei 17 anni più caldi della storia si sono verificati dal 2001. Lo scioglimento dei ghiacci in Groenlandia è iniziato quest’anno in maniera che mai si era vista in precedenza, diventando quindi un fattore di crescita del livello del mare ben più rilevante dello scioglimento dei ghiacci polari. Gli incendi, provocati dal caldo inusuale, che hanno devastato la Siberia liberano ulteriori quantità di gas serra e sciolgono il permafrost con il metano in esso contenuto, causando un circolo vizioso difficile da arrestare. Di fronte a queste e tante altre notizie legate al clima, agli sconvolgimenti e disastri naturali che con sempre maggior frequenza stanno colpendo le nostre società, al lettore può risultare difficile comprendere i meccanismi e le cause di tanti fenomeni diversi. E può risultare difficile distinguere ciò che è evento naturale dai cambiamenti climatici provocati dall’azione umana.
Questo breve articolo vuole quindi aiutare a fare un po’ di chiarezza, evidenziando 10 punti, 10 conclusioni, su cui non vi è più alcuna incertezza nella comunità scientifica internazionale. Dieci punti che possano aiutare ad acquisire consapevolezza ed ad iniziare, ciascuno con i propri mezzi, innanzitutto con il potere di scegliere i propri rappresentanti nei comuni e nel parlamento, ad agire per ridurre le emissioni di gas ad effetti serra.
